Stairlift installation – how to prepare & what to expect.

Stairlift Service Dublin Ireland

Stairlift installation is a quick and tidy process. Straight stairlifts take less than half a day to install and curved stairlifts can take up to two days.

In either case it is a clean and stress-free process. This short article will help you to prepare and let you know what to expect on the day your new stairlift arrives.

Getting ready.

Getting ready for your stairlift installation is very easy to do.

Pets and children will need to be kept away from the installation area for the duration of the installers visit. Our installers always clean up after themselves but during the installation there will be tools, screws and other hazards in the installation area.

The installer will need access to an electric socket that is just for the use of the stairlift. If you are getting a grant for your stairlift a dedicated spur may be required.

Stairlifts must be left plugged in at all times or the battery-life will be reduced.

The installer will also need room to work in the downstairs hall and landing. The stairs and bannisters will need to be free of jackets and coats, or other obstructions. Straight stairlifts park at the bottom of the stairs below the bottom step on the wall side. This area will need to be kept clear of furniture so there is room for the stairlift to park. When the lift is not in use it can be sent back upstairs using the remote control.

If you are having a straight stairlift installed it will take half a day unless there are added upgrades, or it is an outdoor stairlift.

Most often we will cut the rail for a straight stairlifts before we arrive. Sometimes we will cut the rail in the garden of the house the lift is being installed in.

Most curved stairlifts take less than a day to install. Curved stairlifts can be configured to travel past the top step and park  on the landing. If this is the case with you should clear the parking area of any furniture or other obstructions. As with straight stairlifts the lift needs space to park downstairs.

Most people offer us a cup of tea or coffee, we usually have a few cups before we leave home so don’t be offended if we don’t take you up on the offer!

We are always happy to answer any questions you may have before we begin the installation. Please do not hesitate to ask us anything about your new lift before we get started.

The installation process.

When stairlifts are installed the rail is affixed to the stairs and downstairs landing on steel legs.

It is very unusual for a staircase to be unsuitable for a stairlift installation. All modern houses will suit most types of stairlift.

Most stairlift installers prefer the be left alone to install the lift. The installation is a relatively technical process that requires concentration.

The installer will test your lift fully after the stairlift installation. They will also show you how to use the stairlift and highlight all the safety features & functionality.
